Diabetes and Driving
Patients should be reminded that it is their legal responsibility to inform the driving authority: the UK Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA). A hospital specialist report will usually be requested by the DVLA. Unless there is hypoglycaemia unawareness and/ or 'dangerous hypoglycaemia episodes' a patient treated with insulin will be allowed to drive and can even work as a taxi driver (latest regulation).
